And then there was light

Its been a couple of months since we were set our last topic and oh my how much fun have I been having with it. A quick Google search of the term light painting in photography will show you that this topic has huge variety and potential, I decided to play with a few different aspects of it and, much to my dear wife's amusement found an excuse to buy a toy lightsabre or two....

My first attempt at long shutter speed photography, swirling two toy swords the light up while cooking tea one night gave this slightly distorted effect of light painting in it's most traditional method.

Using a long shutter speed (30 seconds) and a moving torch to highlight areas on a static subject, I love this shot and would realy like to try it with a live model, maybe I can talk the Akubra into sitting for me.

The traditional with a sparkler in the dark, I have seen some wonderful shots done this way and am looking forward to trying this with better backdrop and more planning for effect.

Probably my favourite shot, im not sure we can term this light painting but the effect worked pretty well. Long exposure and darkness lit only by two glow sticks, one red and one blue on a black reflective tile. More the shape of the glass and the bubble in the bottom that gives this impact, but all the same I thought it was pretty good.

..and finally. I include this not because its good or worked the way I had it in my head, but because I tried to do it about 10 times, I dismantled our living room fan, I used rolls on tape securing sparklers to fan blades and almost lost fingers turning the fan on with the sparklers burning.
