Two lone lenses in the wilderness of non photographers
come together against a common foe... as the son of one and the husband of
another I would like to introduce The Beret and The Akubra. The Beret is Mick
Newing, a Sony wielding Englishman now living in France and time abundant. The
Akubra is his daughter-in-law Karen Newing, an Australian armed with a trusted
Nikon and not enough time. The idea, other than to reduce spiralling phone
bills was to set a topic a week which would allow them both to interpret,
shoot, process and compare the way they see the world through their
lenses.
So welcome to Beret’s and Akubra’s where a common love
of good food, red wine, unpasteurised brie, decent port and photography brings
together two different views on the same subject, not a competition, except the
inevitable Australia vs. England rivalry - more a way for two f-stop addicts to
share a common love, without the blank expressions of their partners.....
A and B have become A, B and
C........yes, the author of the above, Nick Newing, has joined the fun with a
newly acquired Samsung NX300 and is joining in our monthly challenges as
The Cap! It is now left to Mo Newing to keep us all level headed and to set
topics with the diverse range of macro, landscape and portraiture given our
varying interests whilst we continue with conversations of
which white balance in candlelight is best.
